Below you will find a list of Brazilian films and series  available on Netflix UK in May 2021 with a brief synopsis and their trailers on YouTube. All the films and series listed here have English subtitles on Netflix, and some of the YouTube trailers have English subtitles as well, but you might have to activate them from the video settings. 

Here's the list:

1. Airplane Mode (Modo Avião)

    Airplane Mode follows the young Ana, who studied fashion design dreaming of becoming a great stylist but dropped everything to become a digital influencer for a famous brand.

    2. Nothing to Lose (Nada a Perder)

    Evangelical leader Edir Macedo - founder and spiritual leader of The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God - overcomes obstacles and turmoil in pursuit of his religious conviction.

    3. Nothing to Lose 2 (Nada a Perder 2)

    As controversy surrounds the evangelical church he helped found, Edir Macedo must juggle betrayals, politics and personal loss in this biopic sequel.

    4. Forever Chape (Nossa Chape)

    Forever Chape tells the story of the soccer team Chapecoense, from Santa Catarina, Brazil. A club with an incredible spirit that didn't stop and in honour of the victims and the survivors of the tragedy, the club today looks reborn.

    5. Vai Anitta

    Go Behind the scenes with Brazilian pop icon Anitta, along with her friends and family, as she aims to create a new song and music video each month.

    6. The Edge of Democracy

    Political documentary and personal memoir collide in this exploration into the complex truth behind the unravelling of two Brazilian presidencies.

    7. Paradise Lost (Paraíso Perdido)

    Marked by losses and mismatches, José's eccentric family seek to be happy while locked in Paraíso Perdido, a nightclub that has stopped in time, where they sing popular romantic music.

    8. A New Capitalism (Um Novo Capitalismo)

    How to live in a world with social inequality? Entrepreneurs of Brazil, India, and Mexico found an alternative: to build a new capitalism, more just and human, with profitable businesses and, at the same time, eradicate poverty.

    9. The Birth Reborn (O Renascimento do Parto)

    Mothers and medical professionals share their experiences with the controversial practice of Caesarean deliveries in Brazil. First in a series of films.

    10. The Birth Reborn (O Renascimento do Parto 2)

     Featuring raw and moving footage, experts make a case for increased autonomy in women's choices for childbirth. Second in a series of films.

    11. The Birth Reborn 3 (O Renascimento do Parto 3)

    This intimate look at São Paulo birth center features interviews with mothers, activists, doctors and midwives. Third in a series of films.

    12. Chatô - The King of Brazil (Chatô - O Rei do Brasil)

    The romanticized life of media mogul Assis Chateaubriand depicts him as the star of a televised trial, where his passions and achievements are judged.

    13. Aquarius

    The final holdout in her historic beachside building in Brazil, a retired music critic refuses to sell her apartment to developers bent on demolition. Aquarius is more of a character study, and it can be a bit slow. But the excellent performance by Sonia Braga more than makes up for the film's shortcomings.

    14. All the Reasons to Forget (Todas as Razões para Esquecer)

    A Brazilian man tries to get over the recent break-up of a long-term relationship and is surprised to learn it's more difficult than he thought it would be.

    15. Kardec

    In Catholic 19th-century France, professor Léon Rivail attends a séance and is moved to find spiritism, putting him in the authorities' sights.

    16. Laerte-se

    The first Brazilian documentary on Netflix gives us an insight into the life and career of Laerte, one of the most promising cartoonists in Brazil.

    17.  Felipe Neto - My Life Makes No Sense (Minha Vida Não Faz Sentido)

    YouTube sensation Felipe Neto brings the stories from his autobiographical book "Não Faz Sentido!" to the stage in this comedy special.

    18. The Last Hangover (Se Beber não Ceie)

    In this biblical "Hangover" spoof, the apostles awaken to find Jesus is missing and must piece together events of the previous night's wild Last Supper. Made by the comedians from "Porta dos Fundos" YouTube channel.

     19. The First Temptation of Christ (A Primeira Tentação de Cristo)

      Jesus, who's hitting the big 3-0, brings a surprise guest to meet the family. A Christmas special so wrong, it must be from comedians Porta dos Fundos.

      20.  Love.com (Amor.com)

      When a fashion blogger falls for a video game vlogger, their romance goes viral. But separating their virtual life from reality gets complicated.


      21.  Couples Counselling (O Amor no Divã)

      A seasoned couples therapist comes to realize she might need help with her own marriage after meeting a new pair of young clients.

      22. Elena

      In this documentary, the director remembers a beloved sister who left behind her life in Brazil and moved to New York with dreams of acting.

      23.  Operações Especiais

      In a crime-plagued area of Rio de Janeiro, a team of honest cops, including a determined rookie, fights corruption and mistrust on all sides.

      24.  Afonso Padilha - Classless (Alma de Pobre)

      Brazilian comedian Afonso Padilha dives into his humble beginnings and digs out hilarious stories about his childhood in this very personal set.

      25.  AmarElo - It's all for Yesterday (É Tudo pra Ontem)

      Between scenes from his concert in São Paulo's Teatro Municipal, rapper and activist Emicida celebrates the rich legacy of Black Brazilian culture.

      26.  Rafinha Bastos: Ultimato

      An off-colour joke nearly cost him everything. Brazilian comic Rafinha Bastos talks about that and much more, from his divorce to finding love again.

      27. Marco Luque - Tamo Junto

      Eclectic character comedian Marco Luque plays himself in this stand-up special about relationships, regional differences and his own love of movies.

      28. Jonas

      During Carnival, two teens from different classes meet years after being kept apart. Bad decisions lead the boy to hide with the girl inside a float.

      29. The Killer

      In lawless badlands, reclusive Cabeleira sets out to discover the fate of his gunman father and grows to be a feared assassin himself.

      30. Rich in Love (Ricos de Amor)

      Rich kid Teto is determined to prove himself to Paula, his love interest. But when he tells her he grew up poor, the lie spins out of control.

      31. Get the Goat (Cabras da Peste)

      Is this a risky mission? Definitely. Are they the right team? Not by a long shot. Okay, maybe if you count the goat.

      32. Maurício Meirelles - Generating Chaos (Levando o Caos)

      Comedian Maurício Meirelles explores his chaotic mind with scathingly funny views on family, prejudices, turtles and more in this stand-up special.

      33. M8 - When Death Recues Life (Quando a Morte Socorre a Vida)

      When Maurício becomes a student at a top medical school, he becomes obsessed with a  mystery linked to the dead bodies used for dissection.

      34. Whindersson Nunes - Adulto

      Brazilian YouTube sensation Whindersson Nunes revisits his humble beginnings and much more in a series of playful stories and peculiar songs.

      Fake art. Fake ID. Even fake mayo. Whatever the hustle, they're ready to fake it till they make it.

      36. Ana e Vitória

      After meeting by chance, two young musicians with differing views on love and life record an album that drastically alters their lives.

      BRAZILIAN SERIES ON NETFLIX 

      1. Omniscient (Omnisciente)

        After her dad is murdered, tech trainee Nina risks everything to find out why the Omniscient surveillance systems drones failed to monitor his killer.


        2. Samantha! 

        Samantha Alencar was a child star in the 1980s, but time hasn't been kind to her career since then. Hoping to launch herself back into the spotlight, Samantha tries to cling to the fringes of celebrity through harebrained schemes. When her ex returns to her after being released from prison, she begins to think she can benefit from the situation. Samantha later experiences the 21st-century version of fame by serving as a judge on a singing competition show and trying to gain followers on social media.

        3. 3%

        In a grimy near-future, 20-year-olds compete for a spot in an idyllic land known as the Offshore. Despite the low-budget feel to it, 3% is a very gripping sci-fi series.

        4. Girls from Ipanema (Most Beautiful Thing / Coisa Mais Linda)

        After the disappearance of her husband, Maria Luiza opens a Bossa Nova club in defiance of her normally conservative demeanour. The series is set in Rio in the late 50s and the main character, Maria Luiza, is from Sao Paulo, so this is a great series to hear both the 'paulista' and 'carioca' accents.

        5. The Chosen One (O Escolhido)

        Undeterred by warning, doctors Lucia, Damiao and Enzo travel to isolated Aguazul with a Zika vaccine. But no one is ready for the passionate pushback.

        6. Killer Ratings (Bandidos na TV)

        Brazilian TV personality and politician Wallace Souza faces accusations of masterminding the violent crimes he reported on and rallied against.

        7. Nobody's Looking (Ninguém tá olhando)

        The first new guardian "angelus" in 300 years is added to the Angelus System. But his inquisitive nature disrupts the system's rule-governed order.

        8. Sintonia

        A wounded Rita feels guilty about Cacau. Nando gets in trouble with law enforcement and Doni confronts Dondoka about stealing his music.

        9. Brotherhood (Irmandade)

        An honest lawyer reaches a moral crossroads after the cops force her to inform on her incarcerated brother, the leader of a rising criminal faction. 

        10. The Mechanism (O Mecanismo)

        When a police task force uncovers a widespread corruption scheme involving the Brazilian government and several prominent engineering firms, a scandal erupts in the South American country. After detective Marco Ruffo breaks open the case after chasing down money launderer Roberto Ibrahim but is unable to gather enough evidence to nail him, Ruffo's partner Verena Cardoni picks up the case years later. The series -- from "Narcos" creator José Padilha -- is loosely inspired by true events.

        11. Lugar de Mulher (A Woman's Place)

        Four comedians from Brazil riff on sexuality, politics, religion and motherhood, and set out to prove a woman's place is anywhere she wants it to be.

        12. Invisible City (Cidade Invisível)

        After a family tragedy, a man discovers mythical creatures living among humans - and soon realizes they hold the key to his mysterious past.

        13. Good Morning Verônica (Bom dia, Verônica)

        After a suicide happens right in front of her, police clerk Verônica hunts for the victim's identity and motive. A terrorised wife hides a dark secret.

        14. Kissing Game (Boca a Boca)

        At a high school in a rural, isolated ranching community, families panic when teens contract a mysterious "kissing disease" that quickly spreads.

        15. Anitta - Made in Honório

        In this intimate documentary, Brazilian pop queen Anitta opens up about fame, family and her fierce work ethic, revealing the woman behind the hits.

        16. Afronta

        This docuseries spotlights Afro-Brazilian thinkers sharing their individual journeys and discussing representation, entrepreneurship and community.

        17. A Queen is Born (Nasce uma Rainha)

        Gloria Groove and Alexia Twister make drag dreams come true as they help six artists find the confidence to own the stage in this makeover show.

        18. Super Drags

        In this adult animated series, three gay co-workers lead double lives as drag queen superheroes, saving the LGBTQ community from evil nemeses.

        19. Reality Z

        While the Olympus housemates prepare for eviction night, hordes of zombies suddenly attack, sending the production crew scrambling for shelter.

        20. Dating Around Brazil

        In this reality show, six singles meet five different blind dates at trendy urban hot spots in Brazil. Who will they choose for a second outing?
